Keepin' It Real - 5 Things on my Heart this Morning

It's a blustery, windy, rainy day here in Wisconsin.
I'm going to be totally real with you this morning - here are 5 things on my heart and mind right now.

1.

My 2 year old Rielynn learned how to climb her sassy butt out of her crib. Yesterday Rielynn climbed out so many times I lost count. I disciplined her every time and I couldn't believe she kept doing it. Eventually I gave up, sat her on the couch with a juice box and some Barney and threw my hands up in frustration.
I'm only human, and I'm not perfect.
Today I am determined to stick with it ... ugh.

2.

Elleia Linden ~ 3 days old

Rielynn Lucia ~ 3 Days Old

My sister in law is having her baby today. I'm going to be an aunt again.
Giving birth nearly killed me twice (I have a tilted uterus and Elleia
was Emergency C-Section, Rielynn was  - well - the worst 2 days of my life - )
my Doctor told me both times that if I was giving birth 20 years ago I would have died during childbirth.
And yet ... I still want a third. Something about a newborn ... the way their skin smells, those blinking wondering eyes, those searching fingers and curled up toes ... makes me
want to re-live that stage again...makes me want another. Sigh.......

3.

My shop is exploding with sales.
What I have always wanted.
I love my indie handmade business.
I love that something I am doing on my own -
from my home -
something I started up just for "fun" -
is paying all of our bills.
This is my dream job and I am loving every second of it.

4.

With that being said, I feel like I'm running non stop every day.
My to-do list for each day rarely ever gets even close to being completed.
My phone has been acting funky and dropping calls for about a month now. I have insurance on it, so all I have to do it take it to the apple store in Milwaukee and walk out with a new phone.
This would probaby take me an hour or two.
I havent done it yet.
I literally havent found the time.
I don't like that.
I remember the days when I could leisurely lay around the house,
read,
watch a movie for fun (and not to entertain me while I work)
take naps.
Now, there are two things I make time for.
A little bit of time in the Word.
Play dates with my mommy buddies.
These things get top priority each week.
Everything else - well - kids, God and business are my entire life right now.
And thats okay with me,
although I do miss those mornings when I could sleep in and just be a mommy all day.

5.

Elle holding our Gussy (if you don't know what a Gussy is, keep reading...)

I wish I lived closer to this girl.
I also miss living across the hall from this girl.
These girls are my number one business inspirations.
Maggie quit her day job, pursued her handmade business and now
has a recognizable brand in the handmade community.
((Shes like a celebrity to lots of us handmade shop owners and bloggers :))
We've had two Skype dates and I feel like I've found a great friend -
but she lives in another state.
So -  emails, Facebook and Skype will have to work.
If you haven't checked out the powerhouse that is Gussy,
what the heck are you waiting for.
Ilene (or, illy) started a blog as a way to record her life
and it has blossomed into one of the most popular blogs on fashion and life out there. She has turned her brand into a shop
where she sells these gorgeous headbands ... shes a super woman
and a super friend...and she was my R.A. in college!
I'm very proud of the fact that Ilene used to be my spiritual mentor...
and now she is my business mentor...answering countless questions and emails I had as a beginning shop owner.
Not getting annoyed.
Now thats a good friend.

Happy Friday!

  1. Emily, Precious post. Contact Cheri as she had to get a crib cover to protect Faith when she started climbing out. I can tell you stories... She can tell you more about the cover - kind of curved and mesh if I recall. I have to go to Menominee Falls on April 12 and go right past Mayfair Rd. I could drop you off, get to my appt (only takes 15 min to get there, 15 for appt.) and come back and get you. Want to try that or is that too far away to get your phone changed?
